NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team travels to Illinois to compete in the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah Country Club Oct. 10-11.

The two-day, 54-hole event features Alabama, Auburn, ETSU, Georgia, Illinois (host), Kentucky, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Purdue, San Jose State, Tennessee, TCU and Texas Tech.

The tournament starts Monday, Oct. 10 at 8:30 a.m. (CT). The Sooners are slated to play 36-holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The Sooners last competed and hosted the Schooner Fall Classic. Oklahoma finished sixth and had a pair of Sooners finish in the top 15.

Mikhaela Fortuna tied for 10th and finished 3-under 207. She was joined under par by freshman Raychel Nelke, who tallied a 1-under 209 and tied for 15th.

Fortuna, Nelke, Savannah Barber, Maria Fernanda Martinez and Kaylee Vesely are in the OU lineup for the Illini Women’s Invitational.

Raychel Nelke, Fr., Pocola, Okla.: Opened her Sooner career in the Oklahoma lineup at the Carmel Cup …Tied for 15th at the Schooner Fall Classic, recording a career-low 4-under 66 in the opening round … Attended Pocola High School … Tallied four top-10 finishes on the AJGA circuit … Finished sixth at the Accenture NW Arkansas Junior … Third-place finish at the Westrock Coffee Junior Championship … Winner of the 2020 Southern Hills Oklahoma Junior Masters, girls division.

Savannah Barber, Fr., Fort Worth, Texas: Opened her Sooner career in the Oklahoma lineup at the Carmel Cup … Tied for 32nd at the Schooner Fall Classic, firing a 2-over 212 … Ranked No. 79 by the American Junior Golf Association … Tallied five top 10 finishes in AJGA play … Runner-up finish at the 2021 AJGA Shreveport Junior Tournament … Teamed up to win the 6th U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship … Tied for 33rd at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

Maria Fernanda Martinez, R-Sr., Veracruz, Mexico: Opened the season in the lineup at the Carmel Cup … Tied for 57th at the Schooner Fall Classic (7-over, 217) … Competed in 11 events (10 stroke play events) during 2021-22 … Posted a 73.81 scoring average … Tied for sixth at the Olde Stone Intercollegiate and earned her first collegiate top-10 finish (7-over, 223) … Earned T20th finish at The Bruzzy and finished the tournament with a 2-over 218 … Two rounds in the 60s … Named to the All-Big 12 Academic Second Team … Fired a career low 66 in the final round of the Mountain View Collegiate … Tied for 32nd at the Big 12 Championship (17-over, 230) … Competed at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional and tied for 54th (14-over, 230) … Made the OU lineup 22 times … Career 74.34 stroke average.

Kaylee Vesely, Jr., Austin, Texas: Competed as an individual at the 2022 Schooner Fall Classic … Tied for 27th (71-72-67) and finished with a 3-under 67 to conclude the tournament … Competed as an individual four times during the 2021-22 slate … Made lone appearance in the OU lineup at the Clover Cup  (T81) last season.
