By Nabila Jamal: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sprinting, doing push-ups, climbing atop a tank, carrying children on his shoulders, while walking 25 km daily has put the spotlight on his fitness amid the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The yatris who have been part of the long march have claimed that they find it difficult to match his stride.
“He’s a very strong man. I’m not so strong, I’m 60. I haven’t maintained my body the way he has. But I have to keep up with my leader and youngsters are loving it,” said Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar as the Bharat Jodo Yatra winds its way through the state.

“Even at this age, he’s so young. He looks like a superstar. No less than any hero,” a young girl told India Today. Just look at Rahul Gandhi’s josh. We like his muscle, diet and fitness, said another youth.
Karnataka MLA Priyank Kharge is of the opinion that it takes great mental strength to walk 3,500 km, addressing gatherings and speak to the press. He said people should look beyond his push-ups.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Karnataka on September 30 and will make a final exit on October 20 after covering 511 km in 21 days. According to student activist Dhruv Jatti, Rahul Gandhi’s fitness is at the core of the Congress yatra.
“He’s an icon for fit India. He wakes up at 6.30 and swims. He’s already touched 1,000 km and it’s not easy even though he makes it look easy. He’s obviously eating healthy food as he’s walking over 25km a day effortlessly,” Dhruv told India Today.
“His fitness levels are unmatched. We got tired in 10-15 days. He has made the congress fit. We have changed our diet and our lifestyle. Youngsters have gotten this new spirit watching Rahul walk,” Karnataka MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar said.
The yatra, which is being seen as a strategy by Congress to improve its chances in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, will conclude in Jammu and Kashmir.
