Her love of gardening is evident in the many projects that she helps with in Livingston County. Master Gardener Sandy Knight has received a 2022 Outstanding Master Gardener award from the Illinois Master Gardener program. She was recognized at the fall Illinois Master Gardener Conference and awards ceremony in Tinley Park.
The Outstanding Master Gardener State Award honors the best Illinois Master Gardeners. Only the top 2% of Illinois State Master Gardeners win this award annually. They must exceed in leadership, determination, positivity, initiative, and be highly involved in the program.
Knight of Pontiac is a passionate gardener who strives to share her knowledge with others, according to the University of Illinois Extension. She shares through educational programs on various gardening topics to community groups throughout the county.
It was also noted that Knight regularly contributes ideas and offers her support to many area projects, including the Yost House garden, Flanagan School garden, Dargan Park garden, Youth Enrichment lessons and the Master Gardener Help Desk providing direct assistance to the community’s backyard questions.
As the 4-H Park project chairperson, Knight brings together Master Gardeners to create floral displays and educational signage that are enjoyed by the public and attendees of 4-H Park events and the Livingston County Ag Fair and 4-H Show.
